Woofun AI reports that Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed Resolution No. 936 on July 25, 2026, formally extending the cryptocurrency mining ban to Moscow and surrounding territories through December 31, 2032.

The regulatory expansion, recorded on Pravo.ru, amends a December 2024 order to include the Moscow Region, Kursk Region, eight municipal districts, and the city of Lgov, with restrictions taking effect on Aug. 15, 2026. This follows earlier bans in parts of Buryatia and the Zabaykalsky Krai, which remain in force from April 1, 2026, through March 15, 2031.

Structurally, the Moscow Region’s Energy Ministry cited electricity supply concerns as the primary driver, Woofun AI data shows the grid supports 65 data centers with a combined capacity of 734 megawatts (MW), including 19 facilities in the Moscow Region accounting for 233 MW.

These measures reinforce existing restrictions on power-intensive activities to stabilize the power grid against growing electricity demand. This marks a significant tightening of energy policy in Russia’s most critical economic hubs.
