Woofun AI reports that Ripple, alongside Clearpool and Cicada Partners, has established a new institutional credit fund designed to deploy RLUSD stablecoin loans to fintech and payments entities on the XRP Ledger. This strategic alliance marks a structural shift toward on-chain working capital solutions, leveraging the ledger's native infrastructure for institutional lending.
The operational architecture relies on distinct roles: Cicada Partners serves as the general partner and credit-pool manager, sourcing borrowers and defining loan terms, while Clearpool constructs the underlying lending pool infrastructure. Ripple acts as a limited partner, providing capital under identical risk terms as other institutional investors without guaranteeing losses. Per Woofun AI, the technical foundation depends on XLS-66 for loan issuance and repayment, and XLS-65 for single-asset vaults that aggregate lender capital under Cicada's management. Currently, these protocols remain in the amendment voting process and are being tested on a development network rather than the mainnet.
Financially, the partnership leverages substantial historical track records, with Cicada having underwritten over $860 million in credit and Clearpool facilitating more than $930 million in institutional loans since 2021. The mechanism drives demand for Ripple's dollar-pegged token, as borrowers receive and repay loans in RLUSD, thereby anchoring lending activity to the XRPL. Crucially, XRP is not utilized for lending purposes; instead, it is reserved exclusively for covering transaction fees and maintaining the minimum balances required by the ledger.
This launch coincides with a sharp market rally, where XRP appreciated nearly 20% in the past 24 hours to reach $1.30, reflecting a 30% gain over seven days. The price action aligns with a broader token surge triggered after the Treasury doubled its bond buybacks on Wednesday. This convergence of institutional product deployment and asset appreciation suggests a maturing utility narrative for the XRP ecosystem.
