Woofun AI reports that Bitcoin (BTC) faces a critical juncture defined by three pivotal macro events: the July U.S. personal consumption expenditures (PCE) data, Nvidia (NVDA) earnings, and Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's address at the Jackson Hole Symposium.
The first catalyst arrives at 8:30 a.m. ET with the release of the July PCE reading, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge. FactSet consensus forecasts project the core reading, which excludes food and energy, to reach 3.2% year-on-year and 0.18% month-on-month, compared with 3.3% and 0.13% in June. A hotter-than-expected print could reignite fears that the Fed will raise interest rates, potentially triggering a decline in BTC and the broader crypto market.
Bitcoin has already retreated below $79,000, with technical indicators like the relative strength index (Daily Signal) signaling overbought conditions after a seven-day surge past $80,000. Bond markets currently price in a 38% probability of a 25 basis points rate hike in September, according to CME's FedWatch tool. This pricing reflects heightened uncertainty surrounding the Fed's next move.
Vikram Subburaj, CEO of India-based, FIU-registered exchange Giottus, noted that attention is now on July PCE inflation and Q2 GDP data, followed by Jackson Hole. He stated that markets see roughly a 60% chance the Fed holds rates at 3.50%-3.75% in September. Subburaj advised investors to avoid chasing gains, prioritizing staggered entries, small positions, and controlled leverage instead.
The second data point is Nvidia's (NVDA) Q2 earnings, due after market hours Wednesday. A strong beat could ease concerns over AI debt-fueled capex spending and support risk-taking across financial markets. The 90-day rolling correlation coefficient between bitcoin and NVDA has been positive and above 0.5 since early 2025, highlighting the link between AI sentiment and crypto risk appetite.
On Friday, Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole Symposium will be closely watched, especially following the U.S. Treasury secretary's plan to boost buybacks of longer-duration bonds. While the Treasury aims to tame rising yields, Warsh has preferred to let markets express themselves. The question is whether he will back the Treasury's moves, widely cited as a catalyst for BTC's surge.
The chart plots bitcoin's price action from June 2025 onward, with the lower panel displaying the 14-day Relative Strength Index (RSI), which ranges from 0 to 100. An RSI above 70 suggests strong upside momentum from the climb from $63,000 to over $80,000. While often seen as a sign of an overstretched rally, in sustained uptrends, the indicator can remain in overbought territory for extended periods, making it a self-fulfilling but not definitive reversal signal.
