Woofun AI reports that Shinhan Financial Group is constructing stablecoin infrastructure and developing AI-powered payment models in collaboration with Visa, as confirmed by FNNews. This strategic alliance represents the inaugural adoption of Visa's enterprise stablecoin infrastructure by a South Korean top-tier financial group, establishing a distinct competitive advantage over Mastercard in the region's bank-native settlement landscape.
The technical scope involves verifying core functions such as issuance, remittance, and redemption through Visa's platform, while jointly engineering a Korea-specific business model. Pilot projects will target the integration of stablecoins into bank card payment settlement, alongside the expansion of business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-customer (B2C) payments. Jin Ok-dong, chairman of Shinhan Financial Group, stated, "We will combine Shinhan's financial capabilities with Visa's global infrastructure to jointly design new future finance models." This initiative leverages Visa's infrastructure launched in July, granting it a structural lead as Mastercard's crypto partnerships in Seoul have yet to achieve full stablecoin settlement integration.
Per Woofun AI, the partnership aligns with South Korea's advancing Digital Asset Basic Act, which encompasses stablecoins, VASP licensing, and crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Shinhan, managing approximately 134 trillion won ($100 billion) in assets, is simultaneously executing other crypto initiatives. Earlier this month, its asset management division signed a four-party agreement with the Solana Foundation, Etherfuse, and Orca to test a Korean won-denominated tokenized fund, per a Solana X post. This follows an April partnership between Shinhan and Solana to trial stablecoin payment systems, demonstrating a multi-vector approach to digital asset integration.
The convergence of traditional banking and crypto infrastructure signals a pivotal shift in South Korea's enterprise stablecoin infrastructure. By securing the first-mover advantage in domestic settlement stack development, Shinhan and Visa are setting a precedent for bank-native stablecoin settlement infrastructure. This trajectory suggests that crypto partnerships will increasingly define the competitive hierarchy among major financial institutions in the region.
