Woofun AI reports that a divergence emerged in July between surging on-chain activity and constrained capital inflows, as decentralized finance, derivatives markets, and perpetual futures recorded renewed participation despite limited fresh liquidity entering the sector. While DeFi lending, decentralized exchanges, and treasury accumulation showed signs of internal strength, the broader market operated under significant liquidity constraints.
DeFi lending reversed a five consecutive months decline, with active loans climbing from $20.7B to $22.2B, marking a 7.2% monthly growth. Total value locked across protocols expanded from $68B at the start of the month to over $74.9B by July 31. Aave maintained its dominance with $11B in active loans and a 46.2% market share, while it and Morpho collectively controlled approximately two-thirds of the active lending market.
Ethereum’s 20.32% gain significantly outpaced Bitcoin’s 9.03% increase, fueling activity across decentralized applications. DEX trading volumes exceeded $169B, rising more than 10% in the final week, while perpetual futures volumes jumped over 12% during the same period. Open interest continued its expansion throughout 2026, surpassing $15B as derivatives markets absorbed the momentum from ETH’s outperformance.
Woofun AI data shows that stablecoin supply contracted by 0.6% to approximately $312B, indicating selective capital allocation. ETF inflows remained weak, reflecting limited engagement from traditional investors.
Furthermore, corporate treasury accumulation slowed considerably, with companies reducing expansion strategies for both Bitcoin and holdings in SOL and ETH.
The market demonstrated resilience through internal protocol strength rather than broad expansion fueled by new external capital. This structural shift highlights a reliance on existing liquidity pools amidst a broader slowdown in institutional demand.
