Woofun AI reports that a UK court has ordered the immediate liquidation of Key Coin Assets Ltd, following an investigation by the UK Insolvency Service that identified the firm's operations as a classic Ponzi scheme.
The company had solicited capital by promising investors annual returns ranging from 40% to 100%.
However, investigators found no evidence that the entity ever engaged in actual cryptocurrency trading, revealing that the promised yields were entirely fictitious and unsupported by legitimate market activity.
Financial records indicate that nine investors collectively lost more than £300,000, equivalent to approximately $379,000. Per Woofun AI, the fraud mechanics involved using funds from new investors to pay returns to earlier participants, while deposits were transferred to a company executive's personal bank account on the same day they were received.
The judicial order formally terminates the company's operations and mandates the appointment of an official liquidator. This officer is tasked with recovering remaining assets and conducting further investigations to trace the misappropriated funds and determine the full extent of the financial damage.
This enforcement action coincides with the UK's preparation to implement comprehensive cryptocurrency regulations starting October 25, 2027. The new framework will place crypto assets under the jurisdiction of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), requiring firms to obtain authorization and adhere to strict anti-money laundering and consumer protection standards.
Industry observers warn that such cases highlight the critical need for due diligence, as guaranteed high returns and lack of transparency often signal fraud. Investors are urged to report suspicious schemes, as regulatory clarity is essential to protect legitimate projects from the reputational damage caused by fraudulent actors.
